Mini Excavator Maintenance: A UK Owner’s Checklist
A well-maintained mini digger is safer, more reliable and worth more when you sell it. Build these checks into your routine and you’ll avoid most breakdowns.
Daily (before you start)
- Check engine oil and coolant levels.
- Check hydraulic oil level and look for leaks.
- Grease all pivot points and the bucket pins.
- Inspect tracks for damage, tension and trapped debris.
- Test controls, lights and the safety lock lever.
Weekly
- Check air filter and clean if needed.
- Inspect hoses and fittings for chafing or weeping.
- Check battery terminals are clean and tight.
Servicing
Follow the manufacturer’s service intervals for engine oil, filters and hydraulic oil. Keeping a written service record protects your warranty and reassures a future buyer. Wear items — tracks, teeth, filters and fluids — are consumables and aren’t covered by warranty, so budget for them.
Storage
Store the machine on firm ground with the bucket lowered and the battery isolated. In cold weather, follow our winter preparation guide to avoid frost damage.
